Black History Month
Today in English class, our teacher was telling us about this radio station she was listening to earlier in the day; well apparently the topic of discussion dealt with Black history month and our newly elected African American president. One of the individuals that had called in expressed how Black history month should no longer be celebrated because blacks have accomplished enough basically. Not only is that statement ignorant, but it dosent provide a reason in which Black history month should be abolished. If anything the fact that we have a black president is something else to be celebrated and taken into recognition during the time of this month. Also, the fact that we have a month to reflect over the times and struggles weve had to face in no way measures up to how far we have come as a race. Thirty days out of Three hundred and sixty five is a positive reminder to all the lives lost and sacrificed so their kids and their kids could see a brighter future. Whether you accept our black president, the way we live our lives or the overall composure of this race...we will continue to press forward and do things that we wouldnt have even imagined in our wildest dreams
